Ominous Data Could Impact Apple Earnings Report Tuesday

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) is set to report earnings after the bell Tuesday but some recent data casts doubt on the company’s ability to impress investors looking for evidence that itcan be the high-flying company it once was.

AllThingsD reported late Monday that Mac sales declined 5 percent year over year in the June quarter and 12 percent for the month of June alone. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster attributes the decline to shifting demand toward Apple’s iPad.

Reuters reported that after 5 years of growth, the high-end smart phone industry has hit a top. The report found that developed markets are largely saturated and cell phone companies will have to switch their focus to emerging markets where budget-minded products are a must.

After Samsung disappointed investors with its recent earnings announcement, investors were coming to this realization already but new data lends more evidence.

Apple is set to report earnings around 4:30.
