Apple to Gain Pentagon Approval for iOS Devices

According to Bloomberg, Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) the Pentagon will announce that iOS devices will be allowed on its networks. The announcement will finally allow Apple to compete for Pentagon and other government contracts–a market traditionally help by BlackBerry (NASDAQ: BBRY).

In another report, the National Institute of Standards and Technology awarded Apple’s iOS 6 the Federal Information Processing Standard. In the past, Apple had to use a third-party application to meet federal security requirements.

Coincidentally, court documents from a Kentucky drug case showed that government officials routinely ask Apple for help unlocking iOS devices. Court documents found that after sending devices to numerous local, state, and federal agencies, all of the agencies claimed that they were unable to break Apple’s encryption. Reportedly, Apple has a seven week waiting list for each government request.

On Friday, Apple ended the trading day down $0.83 percent ending at $452.97.
