Taco Bell to Discontinue Kids Meals

Yum Brands (NYSE: YUM)’ Taco Bell announced that it will discontinue kids meals and no longer give out toys. It will move kids menu items to the the adult menu.

The company noted that kids meals were only 1 percent of total revenue making it not worth the effort to offer toys or menu items specifically geared towards kids.

“As we continue our journey of being a better, more relevant Taco Bell, kids’ meals and toys simply no longer make sense for us to put resources behind,” said Greg Creed, Taco Bell’s chief executive, in a statement.

But there’s another reason. Fast food restaurants are exactly known for their positive health effects and Taco Bell is certainly no exception. Hold one of its crunchy tacos at an angle and watch the grease drip out. Fast food restaurants have long been the target for child obesity groups who say that they are targeting children and doing nothing to help address a problem that is worsening. By removing the kids meal from its menu, at least a small amount of that criticism might wane.
