Why Vocus Was Up 47 Percent Today

Despite a market that took it on the chin today, Vocus Inc. (NASDAQ: VOCS) finished the day 47 percent higher. The stock traded more than 14 million shares compared to the average of 231,000.

The stock ended higher after the news that the company was purchased and will be taken private by GTCR Valor Merger Sub Inc for about $447 million. Shareholders will receive $18 per share–a 47 percent premium to Friday levels.

Vocus online press release service PRWeb, social media marketing company North Social, email marketing company iContact, and Help a Reporter Out–a service that allows journalists to find experts for upcoming articles.

“We think it makes sense (for Vocus) to sort out its operational and strategic issues as a private company, rather than playing it out in the public realm,” Barrington Research Associates analyst Jeff Houston said.
